Henhouse Log is a record-keeping app for a household's own hens, coops, and eggs. This page explains, in plain terms, what the app does with your data — and what it doesn't do.

Who we are

Henhouse Log is developed and operated by Zerosoft, who decides how the data described here is used. You can reach us at zerosoftcz@proton.me.

Using the app without an account

The app works fully offline and for free. Everything you record — hens and roosters (name, breed, ring colour, hatch date, an optional photo), coops, breeds, daily egg counts, feed purchases, and your settings, including a household name and your own display name — is stored on your phone only. None of it is sent to us unless you turn on cloud sync. The only thing the app sends without an account is the technical diagnostics described below.

Cloud sync (optional, paid)

Cloud sync keeps the devices of one household up to date and backs the records up. It needs a household account and a yearly subscription. When you use it, the following is sent to and stored on our server:

There is no password and no sign-in through Google, Facebook, or anyone else. Each device is connected by an access key that is kept in the phone's secure storage. Your household's data is kept completely separate from every other household; nobody else can see it.

The server runs on Microsoft Azure in Sweden (European Union). Photos are kept in private cloud storage that belongs only to your household.

Subscription and payments

The subscription is sold and charged by Google Play. We never see your card or other payment details. We receive only the purchase token and check it with Google to know whether sync is paid for. Renewals and cancellation are managed in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions).

Push notifications

With cloud sync, the app can notify you when another member of your household records eggs, when a device is added to or removed from the household, and when the subscription is about to end. For this, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging gives each installation a notification token, which we store and use only to deliver these messages. You can switch notifications off at any time in Android settings.

Diagnostics

To find and fix bugs and to see which app versions and phones are in use, the app sends technical reports to Microsoft Application Insights, with or without an account: each time the app starts, the app version, phone manufacturer and model and Android version; error and crash details; and, with cloud sync, a summary of each synchronization (for example how many records were exchanged and the error code if it failed). The service may work out an approximate location, such as the country, from the internet connection. These reports do not contain your records, names, or email address, and the app has no switch to turn them off. They are kept for up to 30 days and used only to keep the app working. Our server also keeps standard technical logs, such as request times and error details.

Who handles data for us

ProviderWhat for
Microsoft (Azure)Hosting of the sync server, database, photo storage, sending of one-time codes by email, diagnostics
Google (Google Play, Firebase)Subscription billing, delivery of push notifications

They process data only on our behalf, to provide the service. We don't sell your data or share it with anyone else.

What the app never does

Permissions the app asks for

Camera

Only used if you choose to photograph a hen from within the app.

Internet access

Used for cloud sync, subscription checks, and diagnostics.

Notifications

Used to show the push notifications described above. Android asks you before the first one.

Google Play billing

Used to buy and renew the sync subscription.

Keeping and deleting your data

You can edit or delete any hen, coop, or record in the app at any time. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on that phone.

To delete your cloud data, open Settings → Cloud synchronization → Delete account and data. This permanently deletes the whole household on our server: all records, photos, device connections, and your email address. If you no longer have the app, use the request described on the delete your account page.

Deleted data disappears from our systems right away. Copies in backups remain for a short time and then expire by themselves: database backups for up to 7 days (long-term weekly backups up to 4 weeks), deleted photos for 7 days, and diagnostic reports for up to 30 days. Data stored on your phone is not affected until you delete it there. Deleting the account does not cancel the subscription; cancel it in Google Play.

We keep your cloud data for as long as you use cloud sync. If you never turn it on, we hold no records, email address, or photos of yours, only the diagnostic reports described above.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. We process data to provide the service you asked for (cloud sync and the subscription) and, for diagnostics and security, in our legitimate interest in keeping the app working. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to your data protection authority; in the Czech Republic this is the Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.gov.cz).

Children

Henhouse Log isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and mention important changes in the app's release notes.
